Swishing - Climate Friendly Clothing Event

  • Lairg Community Centre Main Street, Lairg, Sutherland IV27 4DD (map)

Lairg & District Learning Centre are taking part in the Climate Fringe Festival this September to build support and resilience locally for climate action.

The Climate Fringe Festival aims to bring Scottish communities together this September, generate conversation about the climate and nature emergencies, and raise awareness of the need to move towards a greener, fairer, zero carbon society. Lairg & District Learning Centre have been involved in a number of climate action initiatives and are part of the Highland Community Waste Partnership which focuses on reducing food waste; tackling single use items; and increasing the use of pre-loved, repaired and shared goods.

On the 23rd September there will be a climate friendly clothes swap event at Lairg Community Centre from 4pm – 7pm. Swishing is an easy way to update your wardrobe in a sustainable way. Textiles make up around 3% of the average household bin in the UK and a large number ends up in landfill. If we reuse or recycle these items instead we could save a whopping 39 million tonnes of carbon!

Clothing donations for the event can be dropped off in advance to Lairg & District Learning Centre.
