Sustainable Spaces
Becoming a Sustainable Space
The Highlands & Islands Climate Hub is pleased to offer its members who own community spaces, support to implement sustainable practices and be part of a network of organisations committed to creating climate conscious communities across the region.
The Sustainable Spaces programme sets out to help community organisations lead their own transitions to environmentally friendly practices, with the development of innovative policies and an action plan to support. The program offers resources and information relating to waste, energy, buildings, food, nature, adaptation and resilience, engagement and culture and circular economies.
A comprehensive support package from the Hub will be available. Community groups will have the opportunity to engage with a policy workshop to get an insight into sustainability polices, and then have the offer of one-to-one support from their local Development Officer as they move through the programme stages.
Our community development officers can also help to signpost to other organisations such as Business Energy Scotland to provide in-depth support and advice.
Getting Involved
Each organisation’s route to becoming a Sustainable Space will be unique, dictating different approaches, plans & implementations. The Hub has complied a vast range of resources to equip community groups with a strong understanding of the avenues available to them.
Community groups can explore these options independently, or with support from their local Development Officer.
We’ve broken what each of these options look like:
