Working alongside communities and responding to their needs is our core work here at the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub. We were big supporters of the Highland Community Waste Partnership which was funded between April 2022 and March 2025 by The National Lottery Climate Action Fund and coordinated by Keep Scotland Beautiful. You can read about the incredible work achieved by the project and it’s partners, here. In early 2025, the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub agreed to host their fabulous Highland Repair Directory as part of the legacy of the project so that communities can continue to populate and use it to find local repair services.
Conversations with Orkney partners unfolded that a Circular Economy Directory would benefit their residents to better understand repair and recycling facilities available to them. We look forward to working with Shetland communities in the coming months to understand if a similar project would work for them.
The Repair and Circular Economy Directories are a collection of interactive maps, designed to help people find nearby repair and recycling facilities.
The Highland Repair Directory aims to make it easier for people to share or repair items, instead of sending them to landfill and buying new. This saves resources, reduces waste and contributes to a better future for our planet.
