Workshop: Making Compost
Composting is the work carried out by many organisms and out of it comes something rich and alive. But how to incorporate all the various ingredients, from grass cuttings to food waste, and get a good balance from them? Come and learn how to recycle your own household and garden waste into some of the finest fertiliser and soil conditioner for your plants.
Ecological gardener Elizabeth Woodcock, a Royal Horticultural Society horticulturalist with training in regenerative agriculture and permaculture, and a garden organic master composter, outlines the golden rules of home composting. You’ll learn how to do it and what to use.
There will be time for questions and discussion as well.
Skaill House is Orkney’s finest 17th-century mansion, originally built in 1620 by Bishop George Graham, with additions over the subsequent centuries. The 12 Lairds over that period have all been related, adding to its continuity. It was the 7th Laird, William Watt, who unearthed the neolithic village of Skara Brae in 1850.
