Raigmore Community Residents Association - Food Forest update

Raigmore Community Residents Association were enabled to engage with forest gardener, Alan Carter to consult about establishing a Food Forest with thanks to the Highlands and Islands Community Climate Action Fund.

The Raigmore team worked on community consultation which resulted in establishing a core group of community volunteers and with land use permissions in hand and funding from Nature Restoration Fund they have accomplished amazing results. Our Senior Development Officer for Inverness and the Inner Moray Firth - Bethany, supported the team with their application to the Nature Restoration Fund and was thrilled to hear it had been sucessful.

The group have been enabled to provide their community with food resiliance for generations to come as well as providing wildlife corridors and doing what they can to mitigate Climate Change. 

In addition, the Food Forest gives opportunities for intergenerational skill sharing and meaningful social interactions to combat isolation and loneliness.

The Tenant Participation Team have agreed to follow the maturation of the Food Forest with regular updates. Some of which will be made available digitally via YouTube. Details of this channel will be available soon. It is hoped this will inspire and encourage other communities in Highlands and Islands to follow their lead.
