Become Carbon Literate with us!

In the Summer of 2025, the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub welcomed Natalie Moore to our team as Training Officer. Since then, Natalie has been working hard to develop the role and to support colleagues internally to be confident and effiecient in their roles.

It’s now time for Natalie, and a few others from our team to share this with our members. Natalie has designed a Carbon Literacy course which has been accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project. This course has been specifically designed with communities and members of the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub in mind. We’re so pleased to offer this service.

Carbon Literacy®: “An awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.”

The course covers climate science, is practical and action focused. It encourages real behavior change with a specific community angle. We know how dedicated, knowledgable and invested our members are in each of their unique projects and this course allows you to look at your organisations and individual actions through a climate lens.

We’re launching our Carbon Literacy Training online but will soon be offering in person sessions throughout Highland, Orkney & Shetland with the support of our incredible Development Officers. The first session is planned for the 30th & 31st March and is open exclusively to members of the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub.

The course is free to attend and the sessions will run from 10am - 2pm on both days.

You’ll enjoy an interactive, easy to digest course with likeminded people and will finish the course having made a personal pledge to reduce your impact on the environment meaning even before you’ve left the online call, you’ll have taken action against climate change!

Attendees who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion from the Carbon Literacy Project.

For more specific information or to book for the 30th & 31st March 2026, contact enquiries@hiclimatehub.co.uk. We’re pleased to have a few groups interested already so don’t delay in reaching out to us if you’d like to join the first session.

We’ve also been in discussion with some of our larger members about the possibilities of delivering training exclusively to them, so if you have a large team of staff, board members and/or volunteers and would like to arrange some Carbon Literacy training, just get in touch. Natalie looks forward to hearing from you all.

After the course launches on the 30th & 31st March 2026, additional courses will be available both online and in person. To understand more and register your interest in becoming Carbon Literate, please contact us today.
