Immediate, practical ways to get involved
To get familiar with a snapshot of our organisation members, we recommend spending 28 minutes watching the award-winning Climate Action: Highlands and Islands film, produced in 2023. The film tells the story of 10 inspiring members as they showcase why the region is such a special place for taking action on climate change. Read more about the project as a whole here.
For those based in Highland, a straightforward way to take immediate climate action is to sign the Highland Charter for Climate, Nature and Health. The Charter is a pledge to put climate, nature and the benefits of green and blue health at the centre of decision making and action, so that the natural environment and people have improved health, wealth and resilience.
By signing the charter, you’ll join a group of likeminded individuals and organisations committed to climate action. The personal action required is minimal, but enough to keep us all accountable and remember the pledge we made on an annual basis and allows us to expand on that pledge or, regroup and learn how to better achieve our original ambitions.
The Highland Repair Directory and the Orkney Circular Economy Network highlight projects, organisations and businesses that are actively reducing items being put to landfil.
So if you’ve got IT equipment that needs fixed, furniture that could do with reupholstering or a watch that needs mending, take a look at these directories and see if you can find where locally can support you with that. You might even find some brilliant volunteering opportunities or project ideas to recreate in your community.
If you’re lucky enough to be aged between 16 & 30, you can sign up to the Highlands and Islands Climate Collective network in addition to the standard members newsletter.
