Eoin F. Scott Memorial Lecture
We’re told that a big planting of trees is needed in the Highlands and Islands to combat climate change. But what trees, should be used, and where should they be planted? The decisions, says Prof. Roger Crofts, have to be thought through very carefully to avoid some of the problems which have occurred in the past with poor soil management and the use of the wrong species of trees. He gives examples of good and bad practice from around Scotland and from Washington State and Iceland.
Eoin Scott, who is commemorated in this lecture, was a founder-member of the Festival and its chairman for many years. He loved planting trees, and the woodland that he created at his farm at Redland continues to thrive.
