Co-Founder of Equitable Energy

Daniel Gear is co-founder and director of Equitable Energy Research, a Community Interest Company (CIC) which is focused on:

  • Researching international best practice in community wealth building from energy projects

  • Working with communities and government agencies to develop initiatives that deliver a fair share of value

  • Publishing information and providing advice that supports communities and the public to develop their understanding of the energy sector

A former ECITB (Enginering Construction Industry Training Board) award-winning apprentice and MBA who worked in senior technical and commercial roles for Petrofac and Peterson Energy Logistics, Daniel went on to co-found energy consultancy Voar (where he is MD) and Equitable Energy Research. He has served on the board of the ECITB and is currently a board member at Lerwick Port Authority. His recent work includes co-authoring a report for Scotland’s Just Transition Commission which examined the social and economic dynamics of Shetland’s energy transition, providing advice to local authorities and community councils engaging with the energy sector, and co-authoring Equitable Energy Research's report on social value from renewables in the Highlands and Islands.
