Repair Café marks first year of success
This month marks the one-year anniversary of the Repair Café initiative, which first launched in March 2025 under the guidance of ILM Highland.
Since its inception, the project has played a key role in bringing communities together, offering residents the opportunity to repair broken items, reduce waste, and learn new skills. Initially based in ILM Highland’s training room, the sessions quickly gained momentum, with strong community turnout creating a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere.
The initiative has since evolved into a mobile service, travelling across the Highlands to reach both local and rural communities. This expansion has been supported by CLLD funding, enabling a wider programme of events throughout the year. Upcoming dates and locations are available on the ILM Highland website.
An impact report compiled at the end of 2025 highlights the project’s success to date. The Repair Café has engaged 190 participants, repaired 120 items, and prevented approximately 350kg of waste from going to landfill. In addition, it has contributed to an estimated reduction of 3,258kg in CO₂ emissions.
Central to the project’s success has been the commitment of its volunteers, whose time and expertise have made the events possible. Their contribution continues to support the growth and development of the initiative.
The Repair Café remains an expanding project, with further sessions planned throughout the Highlands as it continues to promote sustainability, skills-sharing and community connection.
