H&I Climate Collective’s Launch to Action
We’ve recognized a gap in how young people are involved in climate action across the region, and how community organisations are trying to engage them. HI Climate Collective is here to bridge that gap by connecting young people and community organisations through our online hub, which we were thrilled to officially launch to young people and our members across Highland, Orkney & Shetland at the end of April.
At our launch event, we shared our ambitions for HI Climate Collective and heard from two inspiring speakers - Alyson Mackay from 2050 Climate Group and Ellie Moore from Nevis Landscape Partnership. Hearing their climate journeys and sustainable careers enthused the event and reflected the benefit that HI Climate Collective brings organisations who access young people’s skills of social media, communication and insight into youth priorities which is often out of the box thinking.
The input of our Youth Advisory Board has shaped HI Climate Collective by setting our priorities, helping to design our logo, and planning our events. In return we are pleased to offer the Youth Advisory Board these opportunities which align to their own interests, and make sure that our work with them is a two-way bridge and has a return benefit. Daisy, a member of the Youth Advisory Board, attended the Launch Event and said:
“From the launch event, I really enjoyed hearing about how Ellie's and Alyson's different careers came to be, and how they impacted their lives. The event let me learn about the different types of careers and groups I could join to help influence the environment, my community, or the government. I am excited to keep learning and hearing about different opportunities and skills that I have not encountered before.”
We are continuing the momentum of HI Climate Collective with our first workshop, Making Your Voice Heard on Thursday 2nd July. The period after an election is one of the best times to connect with your MSPs, MPs and local councillors so we’ll be exploring how young people can confidently communicate with representatives and support the causes they care about. Young people can sign up to attend Making Your Voice Heard here.
If you are a community group or organization who want to connect and grow with young people, add your opportunity to the HI Climate Collective webpage here. This page is for young people interested in climate action, making their place a better area and sharing their priorities and experiences, so tell them how they can get involved with you and what benefit they will get.
