Delivering Community Led Local Development Funds

The Highlands and Islands Climate Hub are pleased to be working in partnership with Highland Third Sector Interface to deliver the Community Led Local Development Fund on behalf of the Highland Council Community Regeneration Fund.

Community-Led Local Development (CLLD) gives local communities the power to tackle local challenges. By building knowledge and skills, supporting new ideas and encouraging cooperation, CLLD helps to create viable and resilient communities. Small grants of up to £10,000 are available to communities and distributed by the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub and Highland Third Sector Interface.

The Fund is split into four themes, Resilient Communities, Sustainable Communities, Inclusive and Engaged Communities and Enterprising & Growing Communities. These funds are open to third sector organisations operating community-led local projects, aimed at delivering activities in remote and rural areas of Highland.

Hub CEO, Joan Lawrie said:

“Supporting communities to create viable and resilient communities is at the very heart of the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub so I’m thrilled to be working with Highland Third Sector Interface and The Highland Council Community Regeneration team to distribute the Community Led Local Development Fund. These small grants are larger than the Hub’s own Climate Action Fund so it’s amazing to be able to offer more to community projects. We talk with members daily about their inspirational ideas so I’m really excited to be able to direct this important fund where it will make a significant impact.”

Applications are open now and will remain so until the end of May 2025. Applications will be accepted from; Charities, Companies limited by Guarantee, Development Trusts, Not for profit organisations, Community Benefit Societies and Community Councils. The eligibility criteria is explained in detail on both organisations.

The scope of projects that could be supported is vast with communities encouraged to work collaboratively on applications where appropriate.

Highland Third Sector Interface Chief Officer, Mhairi Wylie Said:

“In these challenging times, securing funding for the third sector in Highland is more crucial than ever. This support enables us to continue fostering resilience and innovation within our communities. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub for their partnership and dedication. It is truly wonderful to collaborate with an organisation that shares our commitment to community development. We eagerly anticipate the inspiring proposals and the significant impact they will undoubtedly bring.”
