Hub Bunting
Fiona was delighted to showcase our new Climate Hub bunting. It was made by the team at Green Hive’s zero waste fabric store in Nairn using otherwise scrap material. We are looking forward to having the bunting out throughout summer!

Green Health Week 2025
The Hub Team were delighted to celebrate Green Health Week in May, organised by Think Health Think Nature. In Highland, Fiona enjoyed a social bike ride with Velo City Inverness and a day out with LEAP Sports. Up in Orkney & Shetland, Fran & Andrea went for some lovely nature walks.

Improving lives through local climate action
We are thrilled that the Scottish Government is continuing to support Climate Action Hubs across Scotland through a £6 million investment. There is now a Hub covering every area in Scotland to support communities to take local climate action. Read more.

NHS Shetland introduces Waste and Reuse Portal
NHS Shetland is in the process of introducing Warp It, a system which advertises no longer used furniture, equipment and resources. They are encouraging third sector organisations and schools on Shetland, and wider, to register for free and make use of the furniture and equipment to help promote a circular economy.

Community Led Local Development Fund
Our CLLD Funding in partnership with HTSI closes today, Friday 30th May, at 4pm. We look forward to being able to support communities to become resilient & sustainable through the funding awards.

Highlands & Islands Climate Festival
In 2023 and 2024 the Highlands & Islands Climate Festival brought together communities across Highland, Orkney & Shetland during September to celebrate localism. We are currently awaiting funding confirmation for the HICF 2025/26, and once we have that in place we will release more details about this year’s celebration.

The Hub offers training hose wishing to undertake our fully funded Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene for Catering course. Suitable for staff or volunteers involved in the delivery of a food waste project based in the Highlands or Northern Isles. Apply here.

Stromness Museum’s new exhibition celebrates Orkney’s renewable energy journey. It features new technology, artefacts and personal stories to prompt conversations around energy fairness, innovation, and community impact. The exhibition runs until April 2026. More information here.

ILM Highland and Highland Council Launch New Household Electrical Recycling Collection Service
On Friday 2nd May, ILM Highland and Highland Council launched a new monthly Household Electrical Recycling Collection Service, funded by Zero Waste Scotland. The initiative supports rural communities by collecting unwanted electricals—working or broken—for reuse or recycling. Seawilding Chelsea Garden Award
Seawilding are a marine habitat restoration charity operating in Loch Craignish and Loch Broom. They collaborated with MUSA Landscape Architecture to create a Chelsea Garden, shining a spotlight on the importance of marine restoration and the difference communities can make. Their Seawilding Garden won a Gold at Chelsea Flower Show 2025, raising the profile of the seabed.
